I've always envisioned the letter to the larger church being read, having been delivered by this runaway slave - who is now the pink elephant in the room - and everyone gathered wondering what will Philemon do. Paul's personal letter to Philemon in essence gives the man a loving way out of the social/economic/political? dilemma's he faced.
